I'm off in DC today celebrating a good friend's 25th birthday, but I scheduled a post to say little happy birthday to my Mom. St. Patrick's Day has been a tough one for me these past few years because it is also my Mom's birthday. She passed away in August 2009 from metastatic breast cancer, after being diagnosed in May 2007.
For over twenty years, my Mom was a pharmacist at CVS, and let me tell you, she was awesome at it. She also was one of the founders of a support/awareness group just for metastatic breast cancer patients called METAvivor.
My Mom was smart, patient, selfless, extremely positive, and above all else, incredibly strong. She wasn't afraid of anything, not love, not change, not even cancer. I am learning to feel her guidance and strength in my heart and I will spend the rest of my life loving her, thinking of her, discovering bits of her in me, and striving to make her proud.
Happy 62nd Birthday Mommy.
